Hard to Find Floor Register Sizes
Have a 3×10 floor/duct opening in your home, and can’t find ANYTHING in this size? You are not the only one! Odd size duct openings, such as 3×10, 4×8 and 8×10, are usually left out from most floor register lines. This blog is to help those who are lost on the endless search for odd register sizes, find their way (register).

How about a 3 1/2″ by 8″ floor register. That is the opening of the ductwork.
Good Afternoon! For that specific size, you would need to purchase a custom size. The custom sizes would not have a damper to control airflow (if you needed the damper, you could increase the opening size to a 4″ x 10″ and this is a standard size). The price for a custom 3.5″ x 8″ floor return is $39.57. There are many decorative designs and finishes available for this item (see link below). This item takes 5-8 weeks to ship from the manufacturer and it is considered special order/non-returnable. Good Afternoon Roberta, You could either go with a 4×14 floor register, and the faceplate on top would cover the extra 1″ of vent opening, or go with a custom floor vent. The holes in the floor measure 2.5 x 15, we need 10 in total, what would you suggest ?
Good Afternoon! Thanks for your interest in our registers. Unfortunately manufacturers will make registers for even, whole numbers (for the length), so we do not have a stocked floor vent for a 2.25″ x 15″ hole in the floor. There are two recommendations for you. The least expensive/fastest option would be to purchase a 2.25″ x 14″ floor register, and make sure the overall faceplate would cover the extra 1″. For example, the 2.25″ x 14″ Contemporary registers are made for a 2.25″ x 14″ opening in the floor, but the overall faceplate would cover the extra (dimensions 3 1/2 x 15 1/4). The register may jiggle around (because the damper is smaller than opening), but you can use foam tape around the damper or put in a small wood hold to keep it in place. The other recommendation that I have is to purchase a custom floor return. This is completely customizable (finish, design, etc). This option would not be a floor return grille, meaning it wouldn’t have a damper to control airflow. To give you an idea, a 2.25″ x 15″ custom floor return would cost $47.53 each. This option takes 5-8 weeks to ship. I am trying to find a place the will make me a wall return air vent cover that is 31 1/2. Inches horizontally , and 15 1/2 inches vertically. Can you help. It just needs to be a plain white metal vent cover. I just need the face vent to cover the hole.
Good Afternoon. When ordering wall return grilles, you want to order by the actual opening/hole size in the wall (because manufacturers will make overall faceplates in different sizes). It sounds as if you have a 30″ x 14″ hole/opening size in the wall. Just to note, I know you said wall grille, and a standard wall grille will be quite thin (about 3/16″). If this is located in the Baseboard area (where the wall meets the floor), that has a faceplate thickness of about 1″, please let me know so I can provide this information to you.
The white steel wall return grille that we currently stock, unfortunately has an overall faceplate size of 31 3/4″ x 15 3/4″. Looking for 3.5×10 floor registers
I am trying to replace baseboard registers in my early 1980’s house. They are 24 3/4″ long. I can’t find anything. There are at least 10 of them in my house. Help?
I need a grille for a ductwork opening of 4×16.5, located directly under a (low profile) step.The ductwork is flush with the step (facing the house front door), so the grille would need to be 4 inches tall max, but it can be longer than 16.5 inches. At this time, the opening of the ductwork isn’t covered with anything but it’s not very visible since it’s a low step. Can you suggest something? Thanks in advance!
